Four on the Core
Intel and AMD are bringing quad-core computing to the party -- now it's up to software developers
Dual core CPUs from both Intel and AMD have been on the market for over a year, and both companies have now announced quad core chips. However, each company is touting a slightly different architecture. AMDs chips, to ship in mid-2007, will contain four cores in a single chip, while Intels product will actually consist of a package containing a pair of dual core chips. It is expected to ship this month. But what does all this really deliver to enterprise users?
