Getting Your Business Ready for Microsoft Vista and Office 12
A Gartner expert offers advice about what to do now — and what you can put off for a while.
It's been so long since enterprises had to perform a serious upgrade that many have lost the institutional memory on how to do so. Still, with new versions of the Windows operating system and Office suite right around the corner, it's time for you to start planning.

Acronis True Image 9.1 Enterprise Server
Quick and easy control of data backup across a network
Acronis True Image 9.1 Enterprise Server for Windows ($999) is a new version of the reliable backup application from Acronis that's just as good for consumers as it is for enterprise professionals and content creators. Now Acronis brings that easy-to-use backup confidence to the enterprise market, giving you control of backups across an entire network, and even gives you easy access to Linux machines. We wondered if this enterprise server version was as easy to use as the workstation version we tested last year, so we loaded up the software on our network and took it for a test drive.

Virtualization and Disk Performance
To Virtualize Something Means To Make Something That Doesn?t Actually Exist Appear To Exist
Essentially to virtualize something means to make something that doesnt actually (physically) exist appear to exist. Think of the context in virtual reality. Lets make a quick example of something everyone in IT is familiar with, a PC with 4 logical volumes (C, D, E, and F). In reality that desktop has one physical disk drive partitioned into 4 volumes. A logical volume is in this case a virtual drive.

You won't want it as your everyday keyboard, but it's great for portability.
Your laptop keyboard may be too small for comfort, but few people can fit a full-size keyboard in their luggage. Adesso's portable keyboard can stuff into your carry-on... but we're not sure we want to bother. Your frequent-flier mileage may vary.

Your Next Big Decision
Gartner analysts identify the problems you'll worry about next year.
Collaboration is at a tipping point, analysts say, and it should have one of the highest priorities in your IT organization.
